The Delights of The Tron

Thursday came around and it was Anzac Day. The boys got up early to go to the dawn parade in Browns Bay and then on to young men's camp in Hamilton (affectionately known as The Tron). We drove down and met them in Hamilton at the temple. After spending a little time there I took Karen to see the Hamilton Gardens while the boys stayed on for their camp. And of course got Pokeno ice cream on the way home.

On Friday we went to MOTAT, which was great, as always. The main achievement for the day was that Lani and Zach did the tactile dome, which is an obstacle course in complete darkness. The first time the three of them went in together and had to be rescued by one of the staff on duty (going in with a torch) and they all came out crying. Then I managed to convince Zach to be a brave boy and show his sisters how it's not scary. After a while watching other kids going in and, more importantly, coming out happy he was brave enough to go in. It took a while for him to come out and I was starting to worry he might need rescuing again, but soon enough he emerged triumphant and convinced Lani to go in with him. Once she'd been round with him once, they were both so pleased with themselves and absolutely loved it. They went round a few times more until eventually we got bored waiting for them and pulled them away to move on to other things.

Saturday was the return of the stinky boys after camp, where Adam managed to lock the keys in the boot, where their clean clothes were. At least there wasn't much washing to do! In the afternoon we went to Browns Bay for an ice cream at Penguinos while Adam played in his footie match.

Yesterday (Sunday) was the usual church, roast dinner and veg out for the afternoon. This morning we set off for Russell for a couple of days and right now we're on our half way break on the journey up there. I'm sitting on a gorgeous white sandy beach at Uretiti while they have a knock about with the football, paddle in the shallows and in Karen's case get caught off guard by a rogue wave :D
