Quick catch up

Things have been pretty busy lately and I haven't really had the mental energy to write down the recent goings on.

Foremost in my mind is what happened on Monday just gone.  I'm only just about over it enough to write about it now.  It was 2.55pm and I was leaving the house with Zach and Tilly to go pick Lani up from school at 3pm.  They were arguing as usual, this time about who got to shut the door.  In dealing with them, I said something along the lines of "Will you two stop arguing, Zach just shut the door, let's go!", so he shut the door and I reached into my coat pocket for the car keys, only to realise that in the bedlam of leaving the house with two arguing pre-schoolers I'd forgotten to pick them up.  So we were locked out, with no car keys and to top it off I had no credit on my phone.  I started to panic a little because Leilani would be coming out of school in just a few minutes and I couldn't call the school to hold on to her.  Luckily I had Adam on the best mates plan so could call him.  So I got him to call the school and then call me back so we could figure something out.  At this point I'd like you to know this was in the rare "cold snap" we had in Auckland and it was not a day you would choose to be spending the afternoon outside!

So Lani was sorted, school was going to get her to wait at the office til I could get there.  Adam called Teesh to come over and get me to go and pick her up.  In the meantime I tried every window and door I could get to to try and get in the house.  It was then that I noticed the cat flap in the back door and realised it was really easy to get it open.  Only thing is it was waaaaaay to small for me.  So I figured I'd try and get Zach and Tilly to try and get in.  Tilly didn't want to, so I convinced Zach to have a go - mostly with the promise of a cookie from the kitchen where they were cooling.  So I got him with his head and one arm in when he started to freak out with it being a bit tight and wouldn't go any further.  Then I tried to get Tilly in and she could get half way but also freaked out at that point.  I tried Zach backwards, and then Tilly backwards but again they freaked out at the half way point.  Then Teesh arrived and we had to go get Lani.  When we got back, Lani was all pumped up to try and get in the cat flap, but was way too big. So we tried Zach and Tilly again.  I'm certain Tilly could fit, but at the half way point just would not try anymore and was pushing against me.  I almost just gave her an almighty shove to push her through, but thought I might hurt her, so best not! Very frustrated to see she could wiggle through but just wouldn't, and no amount of bribery was going to make her try.

Afterwards we sat in Teesh's car for a bit, then she had to go, so I took the kids to the park while we waited, thinking it would keep them warm if they were moving around.  It worked for a while, but then we were all just getting fed up so we headed back home and I got the kids to do sprints round the deck.  We got so cold!  And then finally we were all huddled together waiting out the last few minutes before Adam got home.  We were so glad to see him.  I got in and put the kids straight in a nice warm bath and then Ad was lovely about it all, didn't tell me what a dumb thing it was to do, and went out and got us takeaway seeing as I hadn't been able to get any dinner ready.

And that's about as much as I can manage.  Next time I'll tell you about the can opener - remind me if I forget :D
